Statesman News Service

DARJEELING, Oct. 27: Two Gorkha Jana Mukti Morcha leaders from Takdah-Teesta Valley of Darjeeling have been suspended from the GJMM for anti-party activities and flouting party discipline.

The Takdah-Teesta Valley president Mr Narbu G Lama announced the suspension decision served against the unit president of Teesta Valley Tea Estate Mr Dinesh Pakhrin and Darjeeling Terai Dooars Plantation Labour Union (GJMM labour wing) president Mr Dheeraj Pradhan here today at a press conference. Mr Lama said the party president Mr Bimal Gurung had endorsed the decision.

“Our labour wing follows some strategies in dealing with the tea estates. The two of them have opposed certain programmes and the unit members decided they should be suspended,” said GJMM spokesperson Mr Binay Tamang.

The two suspended GJMM members also met the GJMM president today to explain their position on the matter. The details of the suspension order have not been announced yet.

“Mr Gurung has asked them to come up with justification for their actions. We will consider the issue only after they come up with their respective explanations,” Mr Tamang added.

In another incident related to the same area, more than 300 GJMM supporters from the Takdah-Teesta Valley had gheraoed AIGL president Mr Madan Tamang’s house on Saturday rebutting the leader’s allegation that a secret deal had been struck between key GJMM leaders and state home secretary Mr. AM Chakraborty to defer GJMM’s non-cooperation programmes till after the tripartite talks. The meeting supposedly was held at Takdah where the official had stayed during his visit to Darjeeling.

Mr Binay Tamang denied that the suspensions had anything to do with the controversy regarding the AIGL leader’s allegations.
