DARJEELING, Oct. 19: Disapproving of the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha’s “undemocratic” activities, the Communist Party Revolutionary-Marxist leadership has indicated the party’s “unconditional support” to the GJMM is over.
“Since the movement is for Gorkhaland and the GJMM pledged to uphold democracy at all costs, the CPRM had extended its unconditional support. But now the party is manifesting autocratic traits like the GNLF. This has made us rethink our decision,” said the party general secretary, Mr RB Rai.
The CPRM condemned the coercion on people to force them to wear traditional dress, and vandalism of private property of Opposition leaders by GJMM activists. “We are all here for Gorkhaland irrespective of what we wear. By harassing the pro-Gorkhaland forces here, they are strengthening our anti-Gorkhaland adversaries,” Mr Rai said.
“Contradicting the Gandhian principles that the GJMM claims to follow, the party has been creating problems for the Hill Opposition,” he said.
The CPRM leader further said that the situation had turned serious with the GJMM having issued a diktat opposing public rallies by the Opposition ‘The vice-president of the outfit himself declared the party’s dictatorial programme in public. And Mr Bimal Gurung has endorsed it,” he added.
Referring to the GJMM decision of restricting others from participating in the negotiation with the Centre and the state government, Mr Rai said that the GJMM was not authorised to dictate terms in this regard. “We believe in a united movement for Gorkhaland and we will take it forward with our democratic allies,” the CPRM leader said.
