Gangtok, Aug. 19: The government employees of Sikkim have started a two-day puja from today to show their solidarity with the people of the Darjeeling hills and pray for the fulfilment of their aspiration for a separate state.
The support comes close on the heels of an all-party consensus on Sunday for Gorkhaland. The ruling SDF had also been part of the consensus although chief minister Pawan Chamling had lashed out at the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha recently for blocking NH31A as part of its agitation.
Chamling, however, had not named the Morcha which is currently spearheading the movement for Gorkhaland.
The All Sikkim Government Employees (Group C & D) Association and the All Sikkim Government Work Charge and Muster Roll Employees jointly have organised the puja at Tadong.
“The ceremony is being conducted for the fulfilment of the aspirations of the government employees of Darjeeling district and to extend moral support to the Janmukti Karmachari Morcha,” said Narsing Rai, the president of the association.
Eight members of the Karmachari Morcha led by its president Kharga Bikram Subba from Kalimpong participated in the puja today.
